FedWorld.gov
In 1992, FedWorld was established by The National Technical Information Service (NTIS), an agency of the U S Department of Commerce, to serve as the online locator service for a comprehensive inventory of information disseminated by the Federal Government. This service was designed to assist agencies and the public in electronically locating Federal Government information—both information housed within the NTIS repository and outside of NTIS.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The EPA was established to consolidate in one agency a variety of federal research, monitoring, standard-setting and enforcement activities to ensure environmental protection. EPA's mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment—air, water, and land. See also EPA Libraries, below.

Environmental Protection Agency Libraries
The EPA Library Network, established in 1971, is composed of libraries in the Agency's Headquarters, Regional and Field Offices, Research Centers, and specialized laboratories located throughout the country. The combined network collection contains a wide range of general information on environmental protection and management; basic sciences such as biology and chemistry; applied sciences such as engineering and toxicology; and extensive coverage of topics featured in legislative mandates such as hazardous waste, drinking water, pollution prevention, and toxic substances.

National Science Foundation (NSF)
The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense…" With an annual budget of about $5.5 billion, they are the funding source for approximately 20 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.

National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
NOAA research plans is developed in partnership with academia and other federal agencies, and it is peer-reviewed and widely distributed. The result provides comprehensive knowledge to guide national environmental policy decisions, such as developing better predictions of the climate response to emissions changes, identifying choices for protection of the ozone layer, and creating viable alternatives for strategically-planned development of coastal communities.

European Environmental Agency
The EEA website features a fair number of reports and strategic statements (searchable), job postings, calendars, maps and so forth. See if grass is really greener on the other side…

United Nations Environmental Programme
This is a view of the environment from a globalperspective, with a great deal of information concerning U.N. research, programs, partners and governance.

U.S Government Printing Office: GPO Access
Containing an embarrassment of riches in government information, the U.S. Government Printing Office disseminates official information from all three branches of the Federal Government. Here you will have access to congressional committee reports, hearings, debates, documents from executive departments, and much more. Retrospective coverage by the print edition of the Monthly Catalog of Government Publications from 1900 to date is available in the Government Information area. The information provided on this site is the official, published version, and it can be used without restriction, unless specifically noted.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network (EREN)
The U.S. Department of Energy's portal to information on energy efficiency and renewable energy contains more than 600 links and 80,000 online documents.
