John E.
Jesseph, M.D., F.A.C.S. (1925-1982)

Professor John E. Jesseph, M.D. (1925-1982), taught surgery and was chairman of the IU School of Medicine Department of Surgery from 1971-1981. A man of wide-ranging interests, Dr. Jesseph was also an active member of the Indiana Historical Society and an accomplished Civil War historian.

Dr. Jesseph's primary interest in collecting Civil War history was biography, specifically of Union commanders, and most especially General William Tecumseh Sherman.
