Encyclopedias

The Encyclopedia of American Political Parties and Elections (JK2261 .S218 2006, in reference)
Covering all presidential elections through 2004 and newer topics such as Internet voting, this volume contains more than 450 alphabetically arranged entries written by qualified scholars and practitioners on subjects ranging from Absentee voting to the Zapple Doctrine (the FCC policy requiring equal airtime for political candidates). A series of entries examines voter turnout by age, economic status, education, gender, and race, and the analysis of low voter turnout in the U.S. is intriguing. Entries cover terms, not persons, but the index allows the reader to find information on key individuals. Length of entries ranges from around half of a page to four pages. Available in paper version only

The Encyclopedia of Politics: The Left and the Right (JA61 .E54 2005, 2 volumes, in reference)
Although the distinction between the politics of the left and the right is commonly assumed in the media and in treatments of political science and history, the terms are used so loosely that the student and the general reader are often confused: What exactly are the terms left and right supposed to imply? This two-volume Encyclopedia of Politics: The Left and the Right contains over 450 articles on individuals, movements, political parties, and ideological principles, with those usually thought of as left in the left-hand volume (Volume 1), and those considered on the right in the right-hand volume (Volume 2).

The Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy (JK9 .E526 2004, in reference)
"The Encyclopedia of Public Administration and Public Policy contains a remarkably wide array of entries, ranging from current issues such as creation of a Department of Homeland Security to the checkered history of logical positivism in public administration. The contributors include many well-known authorities in the field, plus some new voices with timely and pertinent things to say. This publication should prove to be a timely and useful resource for the improvement of both undergraduate and graduate programs in public administration and public policy" --Dr. Ferrel Heady, University of New Mexico. Available only in paper in the reference area.
