Finding Magazine & Journal Articles

Academic OneFile (Gale)- Academic OneFile is the premier source for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world´s leading journals and reference sources. With extensive coverage of the physical sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, the arts, theology, literature and other subjects, Academic OneFile is both authoritative and comprehensive. With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full-text with no restrictions, researchers are able to find accurate information quickly.

Academic Search Premier (EBSCO)- This multi-disciplinary database provides full text for nearly 4,500 journals, including full text for more than 3,600 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for 1,000 titles. Academic Search Premier is updated on a daily basis.

Applied Science and Technology Full Text - Indexes articles, product evaluations, and book reviews in over 390 leading English-language periodicals published in the U.S. and elsewhere. The database includes trade and industrial publications, journals of professional and learned societies, and specialized subject periodicals.

Dissertations & Theses (ProQuest) - Doctoral dissertations and master´s theses are a vital fund of scholarship for any discipline. The massive body of work available through ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) represents the most comprehensive source of academic research in the world.

Professional Organizations

ASHRAE - The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers is an international organization with 50,000 members.  The organization's purpose is the advancing of the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration for the public's benefit.

ASME - The American Society of Mechnical Engineers site provides information on programs and activities in mechanical engineering, along with information on conferences and expositions.  Also included on the site are mechanical engineering history and preservation projects and details of publications, codes, and standards.

ASME Gas Turbine Papers Archive and Index - The International Gas Turbine Institute of ASME maintains an archive of gas turbine papers published by ASME from 1947 to present.

IMechE - The Installation of Mechanical Engineers members work in research, design, development, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, contracting, consulting, and teaching.  Based in the U.K., the site includes links to the various divisions and departments.

SAE - The Society of Automotive Engineers is a useful resource for technical information and expertise used in designing, building, maintaining, and operating self-propelled vehicles for use on land or sea, in air or space.

SEM - The Society for Experimental Mechanics seeks to further the knowledge of stress and strain analysis and related technologies. This site gives information about the society, its activities, and publications. A search facility is available for abstracts of papers loaded on the server.

SME - The Society of Manufacturing Engineers aims for advancement of scientific knowledge in the field of manufacturing.

SAMPE (Society for the Advancement of Material & Process Engineering) - SAMPE provides information on new materials and processing technology either via technical forums, journal publications, or books in which professionals in this field can exchange ideas and air their views.

Internet Resources

Design Engineering Online - Published by Centaur Publishing, this site helps design engineers working in mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering industries by providing the information they might need in one place.  Key features of the site include a searchable archive of past issues, a virtual exhibition site, a product finder facility, a discussion forum, and links to sites of related interest.

DOE Information Bridge - The Department of Energy provides reports issued from January 1996 to present.

DTIC Technical Reports - Defense Technical Information Center provides access to scientific and technical information.

JPL Robotics - Jet Propulsion Laboratory Robotics researchers perform development, integration, and demonstration of innovative robotics and automation technologies, supporting NASA missions and addressing other problems of national importance. Researchers work toward enabling more efficient, lower cost missions dedicated to planetary surface and solar system exploration, Earth observations from space, astrophysical experiments in space and on the Moon, and the extension of human capabilities in space.

Key to Metals - This site features a knowledge base of carefully selected engineering, industry and scientific articles that save your time whenever you need a quick reference from the theory and practice of nonferrous metals technology and application.  Several articles are available for free.

Key to Steel - This site is a global database of steel materials and has a powerful search engine and presentation facilities. It provides information relevant for identifying, selecting, processing and using steel materials from the whole world. Several articles are available for free.

Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory - The Manufacturing Engineering Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology serves as a central research laboratory for manufacturing infrastructure technology, measurements, and standards. They provide industry-needed manufacturing engineering tools, interface standards, manufacturing systems architectures and traceability.
