Make Something Great Happen

Help a great library grow with your gift.

You can help make a project happen, or support on-going programs or operations, or provide for the University Library’s future through your gifts.

Gifts to the IUPUI University Library are received and administered by the Indiana University Foundation.

Use the Give Now button to make an online cash gift with a credit card. Gifts made online will be credited to the University Library’s unrestricted account for use where the need is greatest.

Barbara B. Fischler Society

Gifts to the Barbara B. Fischler Society enhance the cultural life of the University Library and the Community.

Named for the University Librarian who spearheaded the development effort for our current University Library building, the Barbara B. Fischler Society provides funding for special events and special acquisitions. These special contributions give us the opportunity to share fascinating exhibits, lectures, rare books, and artwork with our patrons and the community.

In fall 2005, The Fischler Society supports Women in the Professions: An Exploration of Choice and Challenge. Library visitors can tour several exhibits: Petticoats and Slide Rules: Women in the Engineering Profession, A Woman's Healing Hands, and The Jessie Grove Scrapbook, an online exhibit. The displays depicts women's noteworthy contributions to the fields of engineering, technology, science and medicine.

The intercommunication events Women in the Professions: Who Moves, Who Stays, and Why Some of Us Choose to Stay Home; Women in the Medical Professions: A Conversation with Girls; Women in the Professions: A Cross-Generational Dialog encourage women and IUPUI and local middle schools students to exchange views on women's careers and the impact career choices have on women's lives.

The Society supported the 10th Anniversary events and exhibits, and funds the Annual IUPUI University Library Art Competition. It also provides funds for the purchase of rare and special books for the library's collection. Fischler Society members enjoy special invitations and benefits as a result of their annual gifts.

To join the Barbara B. Fischler Society, make an annual gift of $1000 to the University Library and note that you wish the gift restricted to the Fischler Society. Call 317-278-2338 for further information.

Honor with Books

Honor With Books is an opportunity to dedicate a book listed in the IUCAT (University Library electronic catalog) to someone important to you: your spouse, your teacher, your friend, or anyone whose name you’d like to honor. Each book can have only one dedication and each book retains the dedication for its lifetime. The dedication will appear in the IUCAT listing for your book and read “In honor of (YOUR HONOREE’S NAME) by (YOUR NAME).”

Your dedication will be acknowledged in these special ways:

  • A letter sent to the person you honor announcing that he or she has been honored by you, including a copy of the dedication
  • A thank you letter and receipt sent to you including a copy of the dedication
  • A blank Honor With Books note card sent to you on which you may write a personal note to your honoree
  • Recognition in the University Library’s newsletter and on the UL website

The cost of this legacy of gratitude is only $50.

To “Honor With Books,” call 317-278-2338.

DO YOU HAVE BOOKS YOU'RE CONSIDERING DONATING
TO THE IUPUI UNIVERSITY LIBRARY?

Gifts enable the IUPUI University Library to broaden and enrich its holdings and provide a way by which a donor can share his or her intellectual interests with future generations. Many of our most special books and collections were donations from friends of the library. Please contact us before dropping off books. The University Library is happy to talk with you about the books you want to donate so that your gift can be made in a meaningful way.

The IUPUI University Library welcomes gifts of books, periodicals, photographs, electronic media, archival material, and other information resources that enhance the strength of its collections and support the instructional and research programs of the University. Specific collection interests vary from time to time, but in general, the University Library's collections relate to:

  1. Those fields of study offered at IUPUI
  2. The Research interests of IUPUI scholars
  3. Philanthropic studies
  4. The history, literature, geography, and people of central Indiana

It is costly to accept a book—a librarian must check to see if we already have it and determine if it fits the collection strategy. If we accept the book, it must be catalogued and shelved. The process costs us over $10 per book for every book that comes in the door, whether we add it to the collection or not. Cash gifts to cover the cost of processing gift books are always welcome.

If you wish to offer a collection to the IUPUI University Library, please contact Librarian Jim Baldwin at 317-274-0476.
