The Herron Art Library Collections: A Gateway to Learning
The only remaining branch subject library of IUPUI University Library, the Herron Art Library's mission is to support instruction and research in the study of art and art history at the Herron School of Art and Design by collecting, preserving, and disseminating recorded knowledge in print, multi-media, and digital formats. In addition to serving the IUPUI community, the library is tied closely with the local cultural and educational communities in many ways. Most prominently by its service to the many metropolitan area K-12 teachers who regularly visit the library for its unique collections and use of resources available on-site.
The Herron Library's holdings include traditional print and non-print materials as well as Internet access. The Herron Library houses approximately 27,000 books, 150 journal subscriptions, over 160,000 slides and 1,200 videos on-site and provides access to electronic resources and digital image collections both licensed and created in-house.
Our special collections include close to 500 fine press and artists books and a beautiful Artist Book Alcove and Special Collections room in which to display and study our materials. For more on our fine press and artist book collection please visit, www.ulib.iupui.edu/herron/artistbook. In addition to our traditional special collections we are actively engaged and committed to providing a digital presence to art related information and images. Please visit our digital collections found at the IUPUI University Library Program of Digital Scholarship, www.ulib.iupui.edu/digitalscholarship. Here you may access our unrestricted art-related digital collections, Indiana Artists, http://ulib.iupui.edu/herron/indianaartists, and Umbrella, www.ulib.iupui.edu/digitalscholarship/collections/Umbrella, published by Judith Hoffberg, 1978-2008. In 2005, Ms Hoffberg granted permission to IUPUI University Library and Herron Library to create an ongoing digital presence to her important work.
